French Riviera to Italian Riviera
- Is it possible to hike from the French riviera to the Italian? Where would a good starting point be if I had two weeks to do it? Any information would be greatly appreciated!

- By change, I just returned from a hike along the French and Italian Riviera. There are different possibilities.
I followed the Via Alpina, red trail, starting in Monaco, crossing the frontier into the Ligurian Alps. Only the first day the Via Alpina is near the coast.
In the Ligurian Alps (Italy), the Via Alpina follows the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri, a trail that is well marked and quite beautiful. It starts at Ventimiglia and ends at La Spezia, a long way! Check Traildino for a walking guide.
Alternatively, you could start in France hiking the GR51, starting in Marseille, which runs pretty close to the coast (busy). And once crossing the frontier, jump on the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri, as described above.
