County Clare in the west of Ireland has a handful of good marked paths. The Mid Clare Way describes a circle around the city of Ennis, the county's capital. This is a predominant rural area, with some hilly and forested sections, but mostly farmland, some lakes and rivers, and the Shannon Estuary.
It's a quiet walk, even if much of the way you will be walking on tarmac roads. The attractiveness lies in the details - the small villages, the small historic sites - rather than in the grand views. Accommodation is available, but not always on the trail itself.
