Burkina Faso

Description

Burkina Faso, Sindou Rocks

Landlocked in western African Sahel region, south of the Sahara, Burkina Faso is hilly at the most. The only sandstone massif of any importance is in the southwest of the country, with Ténakourou (749 m) as the highest mountain. The country is rather dry for most of the year, with several rivers being only seasonal streams.

Worth a visit are Kaboré Tambi National Park, which lies along the Nazinon river, and ‘W' National Park (named after a ‘W'-shaped meander in the Niger river) on the border with Niger and Benin.

Hiking is possible from Sindou Rocks near Banfora, but be prepared to bring your own supplies of food and water, as there are no facilities whatsoever. It is possible to hire a local guide.

  • Reisgids Burkina Faso | Bradt Travel Guides
This new guide to Burkina Faso brings to life the many... Read more
