The Lechquellengebirge is located in western Austria. The source of the Lech forms the watershed between the Rhine in the west and the Danube in the north. Famous mountain areas nearby are Rätikon, bordering Liechtenstein and Switzerland, and the Allgäu Alps, on the border with Germany.

The Lechtquellengebirge receives much rain and the snow remains till late in summer. Yet the nature of these mountains is rather dry because of the dolomite and karst plateaus. The wealth of flowers must be mentioned here. And in the upper parts some beautiful lakes can be found.

Lech is obviously the best starting point for hikes. Lech is synonymous with skiing. No wonder, this area is much busier in winter than in summer. So in summertime you will have all these lifts around, in all shapes.

A good and easy hike is mastering the top Spuller Schafberg, 2.679 m, with a nice 360 degrees view. The highest mountain of the region is the Grosse Wildgrubenspitze, 2753 m.
