This is the country where the fox Reynaert lived, the main figure in local popular mediaevel animal fables. Reynaerde knew how to exploit the corrupt nature and vanity of his fellow citizens and therefore these delightful stories are still (very) recognisable. In other words, nothing changed basically. The landscape did change however. With some fantasy you may draw the contours of this gone era. Be assured however that Reynaert did visit all the little villages you will pass.
