Tour du Matterhorn

Circular tour from Zermatt, 13 days

Everyone recognises the appearance of the Matterhorn (4478 m), or Monte Cervino, the spectacularly shaped mountain on the border of Switzerland and Italy. In 2002 a circular trail around the Matterhorn was constructed. Although climb up this mountain is difficult, the tour around it isn't easy either. Two glaciers have to be crossed, and some difficult passes (3000 m). Experienced mountain hikers will find this no problem, but beginners had better try their luck elsewhere. The impact of tourism on this region, especially on the town of Zermatt, is unavoidable, so our advice is to make the best of it and marvel at the wonders of nature and mankind.
